About The Position

This position is within the Iowa Department of Transportation's (Iowa DOT) Motor Vehicle Division. The role involves providing upbeat, quality, and professional customer service to maintain safe mobility for travelers in the state. Responsibilities include reviewing applications, requesting personal information from motor vehicle records, and maintaining records of current Driver's Privacy Protection Act agreements. The position is located in the Bureau of Enforcement, Auditing and Records, MVD, Ankeny, Iowa, with a Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM shift, and a flex schedule is available.

Requirements

  • Two years of full-time work experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
  • A total of two years of education and/or full-time experience, where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full-time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
  • Must submit to and pass a background check as required by the REAL ID Act of 2005.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process driving record inquiries from county attorneys, insurance carriers, courts, and other authorized sources.
  • Evaluate appeals and hearing requests related to driving privileges.
  • Process OWI-related actions including Implied Consent violations and court-ordered sanctions.
  • Manage suspensions and reinstatements for non-payment of fines, SR22/SR26 filings, and financial responsibility compliance.
  • Review and update CDL medical certificates and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Administer Driver Improvement Program actions and apply required sanctions.
  • Determine eligibility for reinstatement of driving privileges and provide guidance to customers and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate driving records in accordance with Iowa Code, Administrative Rules, and federal MCSIA regulations.
