About The Position

Within the Sample Preparation Department, the Sample Preparation Technician (P2) works with client samples and prepares them for analysis in ALS laboratories. The role involves sample processing under direct supervision, maintaining production logs, keeping the laboratory clean, and observing established safety regulations and ALS health and safety policies. The technician may also assist with layout duties and perform compositing, screen metallics, and other special handling requests.

Requirements

• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Basic alphanumeric comprehension.
• Basic written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
• Ability to work in a hot and dusty environment.
• Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, sometimes continuously; assistance from another employee or lift-assist equipment is mandatory when lifting may exceed 50 pounds.
• Ability to sit at a desk and perform general office work, including periodic sedentary responsibilities.
• Must be cleanly shaven to wear protective equipment.
• Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or hold or be able to obtain a valid working visa.

Responsibilities

• Ring and sieve samples, including International Soils, and crush and split samples under direct supervision.
• Load and unload drying ovens under supervision.
• Maintain personal production logs.
• Perform general cleaning duties to maintain basic laboratory cleanliness.
• Assist with layout duties or tasks as needed.
• Handle compositing, screen metallics, and special handling requests.
• Inspect equipment and inform a senior employee when an adjustment is required.
• Observe established safety regulations and comply with ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
