About The Position

SGS is seeking an entry-level Sample Management Technician for its Reno, Nevada laboratory. The role supports the Sample Management Team by receiving and documenting samples, preparing bottle kits for clients, moving samples to laboratory areas, and managing sample storage and disposal. The technician also works in shipping and receiving, answers phone calls, and greets clients. The role requires accurate documentation, adherence to laboratory and sample-management procedures, communication with Client Services and laboratory operations, and strong customer service.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Advanced English language skills.
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull upwards of 50 pounds on a constant basis.

Nice To Haves

Experience in an environmental laboratory.
Associate degree in a science-related field.

Responsibilities

Receive and unpack sample coolers and containers, and document receipt efficiently and promptly.
Verify and record sample receipt temperatures.
Perform preservation checks on aqueous samples in various containers.
Create jobs, enter bottle records, and generate bottle labels in LIMS according to chain-of-custody requirements.
Apply labels to sample containers.
Transfer samples between sample reception, cold or ambient storage, and laboratory departments.
Prepare bottle kits for clients.
Maintain required documentation accurately and clearly.
Remove historical samples for completed jobs, assign samples for disposal, and dispose of expired samples.
Communicate sample information to Client Services and laboratory operations to support timely processing.
Follow laboratory and sample-management SOPs and proper sample-handling procedures.
Provide customer service to internal and external clients.
Answer phone calls and greet clients upon arrival.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work in shipping and receiving.
