Sales Engineer (Pre-Sales)

Chromatic
$126,000 - $178,000Remote

About The Position

Chromatic is looking for a Sales Engineer to partner closely with our Sales team and drive the technical success of our Enterprise deals. In this role, you’ll lead the technical evaluation process, from first conversation through proof-of-concept, helping engineering teams understand how Chromatic and Storybook fit into their workflows and deliver measurable value. You’ll act as a trusted technical advisor to prospective customers, guiding architecture decisions, solving complex frontend and CI challenges, and demonstrating how modern teams can adopt component-driven development at scale, while showcasing the importance and impact of visual regression testing in building reliable UIs. This is a high-impact, revenue-critical role where your ability to connect technical depth with business value will directly influence pipeline progression, deal success, and company growth. This is a fully remote position and the candidate must be located in Central or Eastern Time Zone within the US or Canada.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a pre-sales technical role
  • Experience working at a B2B SaaS company
  • Strong frontend engineering background with experience in modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, Webpack, Vite)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and developer workflows (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, etc.)
  • Ability to quickly understand complex technical environments and propose practical solutions
  • Experience running demos, technical discovery, proof-of-values, and proof-of-concepts
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into compelling narratives that resonate with different audiences (engineers, managers, and executives)
  • Strong situational awareness and the ability to “read the room,” allowing you to quickly understand stakeholder dynamics, adapt your approach in real time, and build trust with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • High emotional intelligence and relationship-building skills; you know how to navigate complex customer organizations and create alignment across teams
  • A consultative mindset — you ask thoughtful questions, listen deeply, and tailor solutions to each customer’s unique context rather than jumping to generic answers
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability, especially in high-stakes, deal-driven environments
  • Growth mindset — you’re curious, proactive about learning, and constantly looking to refine your craft (both technically and in how you engage with customers)
  • Enjoy navigating ambiguity and working in a fast-paced, evolving environment

  • Own and execute proof-of-concepts (POCs) and technical evaluations
  • Guide prospects through integrating Chromatic into their CI/CD pipelines and development workflows
  • Advise on best practices for scaling component-driven development and modern front-end testing across teams.
  • Address technical objections, including security, performance, and architecture concerns
  • Collaborate with prospects’ engineering teams to solve real-world implementation challenges during evaluations
  • Support RFPs, security reviews, and technical due diligence processes
