Full Time - Sales Associate - Hardware - Day
About The Position
As a Customer Service Associate in the Hardware department, you provide friendly, professional service and help customers find products and services for their home improvement needs. You listen to customers, answer questions, assist with product selection and handling, and help keep merchandise organized and available. Duties can vary by department and may include preparing merchandise to meet customer needs, processing orders and deliveries, and helping customers through shopping or checkout. Associates may cross-train in other store areas. The role may involve work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions, exposure to noise and moving equipment, and occasional travel to meetings, training, or neighboring stores. Follow lifting guidelines: single lifts are limited to 75 pounds, with minimal team lifts starting at 75 pounds or as needed; use powered equipment when required, with proper training or assistance.
Requirements
- At least 6 months of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
- At least 6 months of experience using common retail technology, such as smartphones and tablets.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic, including addition and subtraction.
- Ability to perform duties that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform the job.
- Ability to lift at least 25 pounds unassisted, or more than 25 pounds with or without an accommodation.
Nice To Haves
- At least 6 months of retail and/or customer service experience.
- Bilingual skills.
- Certification in a trade related to the department, such as hardware, kitchen, plumbing, electrical, lawn and garden, or lumber/building materials.
Responsibilities
- Welcome customers, answer questions, and provide friendly and professional customer service.
- Assist customers with locating and handling merchandise.
- Down stock merchandise by identifying empty shelf areas and replenishing supplies.
- Process orders and deliveries accurately so customers receive merchandise as expected and on time.
- Cross-train in other store areas to help provide customer service.
- Prepare merchandise for customers as needed, such as tinting and mixing paint, cutting and threading pipe, cutting and bundling wood, cutting drywall, or cutting blinds.
- Guide customers through shopping or checkout.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
