About The Position

OxyChem is seeking a Sales and Inventory Staff Accountant for its headquarters in Dallas, Texas. This role is crucial for developing a strong foundation for future responsibilities within the department and company. The position involves reporting on sales and inventory, analyzing product costs, reconciling inventory, and ensuring the accuracy of the month-end close process. The ideal candidate will be introduced to additional areas and tasks within the department and company as they progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (with a minimum 18 hours of Accounting)
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to maintain relationships in a hybrid work environment and supporting controllers in various locations
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Detail oriented with ability to prioritize during close under time constraints
  • General understanding and experience with standard, average, FIFO and LIFO basis of accounting for inventory.

  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with average costing (material ledger postings and analysis is a plus)
  • Excels in a flexible environment (role rotations every 12 – 18 months, hybrid schedule and overtime during month end close and peak times)
  • SAP S/4HANA (FI, CO, PA, BW transactions)
  • Strong understanding of inventory, intercompany and cost accounting
  • Exposure to system integration and reporting systems (IBM Cognos, Business Warehouse, SAP Analytics Cloud)
  • Collaborative and excel in a team environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of sales and inventory information.
  • Analyze product cost data.
  • Monitor/reconcile terminal and warehouse inventory.
  • Ensure integrity and accuracy of the month end accounting close process.
  • Generate and distribute recurring management reports (inventory, reserves, outlook vs. actuals).
  • Support business and manufacturing locations with month end entries and timely completion of monthly account analysis.
  • Assist and lead terminal and warehouse inventory physical audits and completion of book to book and book to physical monthly reconciliations.
  • Provide support for external audits, government and tax reporting.
  • Evaluate the accuracy and reliability of accounting data, effectiveness of existing accounting procedures and controls, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement accounting practices to promote consistency, application of best practices, task automation, and efficiencies.
  • Assist with FIFO/LIFO/Split Valuation models and tie-outs to SAP.
