Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Safety and/or Training field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of continuous Electric Transmission and/or Substation construction and maintenance experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of all applicable OSHA codes and standards.

  • May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.

  • Climbing on and off large trucks and equipment.
  • Exposure to hot and cold weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Measures Field Management's work to ensure it is performed safely according to specifications.
  • Adheres to all Company Safety policies while conducting Company business.
  • Observes employees at work and documents feedback on safety behavior using company forms and check sheets.
  • Compiles crew observation forms, vehicle and equipment forms and submits documents to project supervision and the corporate safety department at required intervals.
  • Ensures inspection of equipment, tools, vehicles, working conditions and procedures for the safety of employees engaged in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground power and telecommunication systems.
  • Inspects climbing equipment, fall protection equipment, rigging practices, rigging equipment, personal protective equipment, rubber, and plastic insulating equipment.
  • Removes from service any defective equipment, or equipment not meeting safety requirements.
  • Uses appropriate federal, state, and company manuals to determine regulatory and policy compliance.
  • Inspects facilities, vehicles, and equipment to ensure the presence of required firefighting equipment, first aid supplies, required safety equipment and placards, signs, warning labels, and current inspection labels.
  • Coordinates with customer representatives, insurance carrier loss consultants, and federal or state agencies to perform site inspections.
  • Corrects safety policy noncompliance or unsafe behavior and reports to Superintendent or Project Management.
  • Coordinates with project supervision to develop a project safety committee and acts as the facilitator.
  • Coordinates with project supervision to schedule weekly project safety meetings, daily job briefings, and tailgate safety meetings as needed.
  • Works with the project safety committee to investigate safety violations, accidents, and near-miss incidents, determine root causes, and coordinate with project and senior management to develop corrective and/or preventative measures.
  • Performs job hazard analysis to determine site-specific hazards and coordinates with project supervision to eliminate, guard, and protect employees, customers, and the public from recognized hazards.
