About The Position

The Safety Coordinator ensures a safe and compliant work environment on commercial construction job sites. This role involves understanding construction safety standards, communicating effectively in English and Spanish, and promoting a strong safety culture. The Safety Coordinator works closely with project teams to identify, evaluate, and mitigate potential hazards, supports daily construction activities through site inspections and training coordination, and reinforces best practices across all trades. As a bilingual professional, they effectively communicate safety expectations, procedures, and training to a diverse workforce. The position assists in implementing and maintaining company safety programs, policies, and procedures in alignment with applicable regulations. Through proactive engagement, clear communication, and documentation, the Safety Coordinator helps foster a culture of safety and accountability on every project.

Requirements

Proficient in both English and Spanish (verbal and written communication) to effectively communicate with a diverse workforce.
Basic knowledge of construction industry safety standards and practices. Ability to research and stay informed about regulations as needed.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate safety concerns and solutions clearly. Report-writing and presentation abilities.
Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs or ladders, and work outdoors for extended periods. Ability to travel to various job sites as needed. Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly to identify and address safety concerns.
Must be flexible to work variable shifts, including occasional Saturdays.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), and the ability to adapt to new technology and tools.
Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
Primarily indoor office environment with frequent visits to project sites; occasional lifting; frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, keyboarding, and operating office equipment.
Frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Ability to consistently be at the office or on site in-person 5 days a week from 8am-4pm

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in construction safety, risk management, or a related field is preferred.
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
CPR/First Aid certified
Previous experience in the construction industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with various departments to plan and implement solutions for hazard control, using engineered systems or personal protective equipment (PPE) to eliminate risks.
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including OSHA, VOSH, MOSH, and company safety policies. Keep updated on changes to regulations and best practices in the industry.
Professionally represent the company during safety inspections and safety-related communications with clients.
Perform regular safety observations, inspections, and audits. Prepare detailed reports on findings and communicate unsafe conditions to management, recommending corrective actions.
Lead the investigation of near misses and incidents, identifying root causes and contributing to the development of corrective and preventative actions.
Conduct safety training sessions for employees in both English and Spanish, in field or classroom settings. Ensure all team members are knowledgeable about safety protocols and best practices.
Provide first-aid assistance for minor injuries and ensure proper reporting and documentation.
Assist with additional safety-related tasks and projects as needed.
