About The Position

This position serves as the Safety Compliance Officer accountable for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing safety and security programs for Taylor Power Systems. This position also audits all safety procedures and programs, conducts inspections, and coordinates with managers to meet all OSHA requirements. The primary purpose of this position is to minimize the number and severity of accidents and to provide for the wellbeing of its employees. This individual will develop and implements training programs for supervisors and personnel in all aspects of safety.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and on paper
  • Ability to relate positively with plant employees, supervisors, and upper management.
  • Overnight travel required (Approximately 10%)
  • Must have valid driver’s license to be insurable by corporate insurance policy.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and email applications
  • Ability to Multitask
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with two years’ experience in safety/security field, or associate degree with three years’ experience, or equivalent of two years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Adult First Aid / CPR Certified
  • Train the Trainer Certified in Forklift Operation
  • Certified to perform respirator fit test / Or Pass Course

Responsibilities

  • Acts as Taylor Power Safety Compliance Officer is all areas of safety, security, and industrial hygiene reporting directly to the Corporate Safety Manager.
  • Assists Corporate Safety Director as needed performing various tasks.
  • Develops and initiates policies and procedures that address all key safety issues and concerns throughout the companies.
  • Ensures that all OSHA required policies and procedures are documented and implemented.
  • Audits work practices and conducts inspections to ensure that safety related policies and procedures are being followed by employees and enforced by management.
  • Follows up on corrective actions of potential safety problems by reviewing reports from supervisory and management personnel and assisting in the corrective action process when necessary.
  • May perform audits of geographically separated facilities ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Serves as the interface between the company, OSHA, and insurance carrier representatives in order to ensure that the company complies with their requirements.
  • Ensures a proactive approach to accident prevention by training and advising supervisors and employees on safety issues.
  • Maintains first aid stations and is certified to perform first aid when needed.
  • Ensures adequate inventory of protective equipment such as safety glasses, paints suits, respirators.
  • Coordinates efforts to escort all injured personnel, requiring professional medical attention, to the doctor or hospital.
  • Investigates all accidents pertaining to Taylor Power Systems and ensures a supervisor’s report of future preventive action is on file.
  • Ensures that certification training for forklift operators is conducted, pulmonary tests, respirator training, hearing tests, etc., permits are issued, and documentation is on file.
  • Writes reports implementing the safety program, inspects the facility for adequate fire protections and ensures all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Maintains safety files and records.
  • Maintains expertise on current safety issues through ongoing literature surveys and attendance at relevant seminars and meetings.
  • Ensures that required OSHA notices and OSHA 300 logs are posted throughout Taylor Power Companies.
  • Coordinates all activities for Loss Control Inspections by our insurance providers.
  • Schedule fire suppression and security systems for annual testing and needed repairs.
  • Monitors and tracks Safety Data Sheets, interfaces with Access Environmental contractor, interfaces with Dept. of Environmental Quality, and performs walk through inspections of facilities along with contractor and during site visits.
