About The Position

The Safety Analyst plays a key role in achieving Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s quality assurance goals of maintaining a safe, nurturing Boys & Girls Club environment while ensuring compliance to recognized safety standards. The Safety Analyst conducts organization and site-level safety assessments to evaluate the organizational climate and to assess conformance with child and Club safety practices and procedures, policies and standards. The Safety Analyst communicates the assessment findings and trends, including strengths and opportunities for improvement, with Club leadership and board members. The Safety Analyst works in partnership with other safety team members and BGCA national staff to ensure full support and excellent customer service to member organizations in their efforts to complete improvement plans and maintain safe places where youth and teens thrive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, safety, risk management or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Safety Analyst or similar position
  • Experience in conducting onsite assessments
  • Experience managing regional travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight stays and weekend travel
  • Experience with Risk Management and Mitigation
  • Knowledgeable in Abuse Prevention and/or Youth Services
  • Experience with MS Word, Excel, Project Management and Analytics software
  • Possess expert knowledge of risk management and control, premises liability, security, property hazards, sports and aquatic safety, emergency response planning/procedures, vehicular safety, bullying, and child abuse.
  • Ability to effectively use technology while traveling.
  • Must be located in the SW region (MT, WY, CO, NM, KS, OK, AR, TX)
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country by using a map or other direction methods.
  • Adhere to company travel safety policies and approved travel procedures
  • Use safe transportation practices, including: Wear seat belts when provided, Follow traffic laws and avoid distracted and impaired driving, Use approved transportation providers, Maintain situational awareness in unfamiliar environments (e.g., hotels, airports, Club communities), Be familiar with emergency procedures relevant to travel locations (e.g., evacuation routes, local emergency numbers), Carry required emergency contact information and report incidents promptly to supervision, Determine fitness for travel, including managing fatigue, health conditions, and work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough organizational level and site-level safety assessments.
  • Collect and review internal and external documentation in advance of all visits.
  • Conduct opening conference sessions with Club leadership to establish comfort/understanding about the process and to ensure a spirit of mutual respect and accountability.
  • Evaluate the safety culture and organizational alignment with the Movement’s Safety Management System/Layers of Protection Strategy.
  • Review conformance with BGCA membership requirements and applicable safety standards, including OSHA.
  • Evaluate the capabilities of the organization/club site to determine relevant risks and opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities for continuously improving the safety system, including risk identification, and sharing of good practices.
  • Resolve obstacles encountered during the assessment such as diverging opinions between the Analyst and the Club CEO.
  • Analyze incidents and safety data to proactively identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Provide immediate prioritization and support for any high-risk observations or findings.
  • Ensure that the assessment findings and conclusions are based on objective evidence only.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing risk assessment findings, including recommended mitigation strategies and tactics.
  • Develop an improvement plan outlining specific corrective action steps with timeframes, responsibilities and other details for addressing nonconformance.
  • Communicate effectively with Club leaders in person, virtually and through written follow-up correspondence, to ensure comprehensive understanding of the assessment results and recommendations.
  • Provide policy interpretations and basic safety corrections while onsite regarding facility operation, staffing and operational requirements.
  • Assign appropriate timelines for corrective action with a follow-up cadence, coordinating with QA National/Lead Directors and/or Compliance Department as required.
  • Facilitate follow up actions to address areas of non-compliance, including safety director involvement and/or peer consultations.
