About The Position

The RWC Lifeguard is responsible for creating a safe environment for swimmers and pool users. This role involves overseeing individuals in and around the pool, performing lifesaving activities such as resuscitation and first aid, and actively monitoring the number of people in the pool and on the deck. The lifeguard must ensure the pool chemicals are at recommended levels, perform daily cleaning and maintenance, and accurately record data such as headcount and chemical logs. This position requires active movement around the pool deck and adherence to all Gannon University and Recreation and Wellness Center policies. The role also emphasizes providing a professional, welcoming, and inclusive environment and effective communication with colleagues.

Requirements

Enrolled full-time student of Gannon University preferably with a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
Current Lifeguarding certification including CPR / AED
Leadership skills including strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a team atmosphere
Professionalism
Ability to work with a diverse population that would include students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision on day to day tasks and be able to take initiative.
Must be able to support and promote the University’s Mission.

Nice To Haves

Previous lifeguarding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Maintain continuous surveillance of swimmers in the pool and on the pool deck and identify potential safety hazards.
Enforce and apply all Gannon University and Recreation and Wellness Center policies and procedures during scheduled shifts.
Respond quickly, logically, and in accordance with established emergency procedures.
Keep the pool deck clean and organized.
Utilize the pool vacuum as needed and mop the pool deck when appropriate.
Enact rescue protocol in the event of drowning or swimming incidents, including administering first aid and CPR as required.
Monitor and report chemical levels in the Aquatic binder. Report any imbalance of chemicals to the RWC Director.
Fill out appropriate reports, including headcount of people in pool and pool chemical log.
Attend all in-service trainings and all staff trainings.
Provide a professional, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all who enter the facility.
Properly communicate with other Lifeguards and Building Supervisors.
