About The Position

The client is seeking an experienced Rust Full Stack Developer for a long-term contract in a product engineering environment. The role involves backend and full-stack application development, applying Rust and Go expertise to real-world engineering challenges. Rust is a critical, non-negotiable requirement: candidates must have practical development experience, production-code ownership, and a solid understanding of systems programming. The position is onsite from Day 1 in Austin, Texas, or Sunnyvale, California. Candidates will contribute across backend services, APIs, and frontend components as required. Rust expertise will be carefully assessed before submission, including candidates' understanding of core Rust concepts, asynchronous programming, concurrency, and their real-world project contributions and technical decisions.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of hands-on full-stack software development experience.
  • At least 4 years of strong hands-on experience in Rust and Go combined, with demonstrable proficiency in both languages.
  • Strong hands-on Rust development experience, including ownership of production code; Rust is mandatory and theoretical or limited exposure is insufficient.
  • Strong Go backend development experience, including concurrent programming and scalable service development.
  • Experience developing and maintaining backend services and REST APIs with Spring Boot.
  • Experience building backend applications, APIs, and application integrations with Node.js.
  • Ability to contribute to backend services, APIs, and frontend components as required.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with backend application design, debugging, performance optimization, and production issue resolution.
  • Understanding of concurrency, memory safety, error handling, and resource management in systems programming.
  • Ability to explain Rust ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, the borrow checker, traits, generics, enums, pattern matching, and error handling with Result and Option.
  • Ability to discuss concurrency, thread safety, and the appropriate use of Send and Sync in Rust.
  • Ability to explain asynchronous Rust, including async/await and runtimes such as Tokio where applicable.
  • Experience working in collaborative, fast-paced product engineering environments.
  • Willingness to work onsite from Day 1 in Austin, TX, or Sunnyvale, CA.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with modern frontend frameworks and technologies.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and containerization.
  • Experience designing reliable, scalable, and maintainable software systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop backend and full-stack applications across services, APIs, and frontend components as required.
  • Develop and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Spring Boot.
  • Build backend applications, APIs, and integrations using Node.js.
  • Develop scalable backend services using Go, including concurrent programming.
  • Write and maintain production code in Rust and explain implementation and architectural decisions.
  • Design, debug, and optimize backend applications and resolve production issues.
  • Develop software using microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems concepts.
  • Apply systems programming knowledge, including concurrency, memory safety, error handling, and resource management.
  • Explain and demonstrate Rust ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, traits, generics, enums, pattern matching, and Result and Option error handling.
  • Discuss Rust concurrency and thread safety, including appropriate use of Send and Sync.
  • Explain asynchronous Rust, including async/await and runtimes such as Tokio where applicable.
  • Describe real-world Rust projects, individual contributions, debugging approaches, architectural decisions, and performance considerations.
