About The Position

Munters is hiring a Run Test Technician to test the electrical operation of HVAC units after their structural, mechanical, electrical, and condensing components have been installed. The technician ensures that units comply with product specifications, following standard procedures while making decisions about test setup and sequencing. The work includes pretest inspections and verification; dry testing electrical systems and components; and running units under specified conditions. The technician measures and records operating data, troubleshoots failures, makes defined adjustments, documents defects and test results, and coordinates completed units with engineering and production. The role also involves maintaining quality and safety standards, completing required checklists and documentation, and assisting with other work as needed to meet production schedules. The position involves daily exposure to high voltage and requires use of specified personal protective equipment. Standard schedules plus overtime and weekend hours are required to meet production demands. Offers are contingent on applicable pre-employment drug testing and background checks.

  • Ability to troubleshoot circuits and devices and recommend changes or improvements.
  • Complete knowledge of refrigeration operating systems, including charging and weighing refrigerant charges.
  • Understanding of electrical theory and practice for electric motors, motor starters, contactors, control relays, time-delay relays, circuit breakers, fusing, PLCs, fluid-flow and temperature sensors, and related electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical components.
  • Ability to work with daily exposure to electrical voltage up to 575 volts and amperage up to 200 or more.
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, climb, maneuver, stoop, squat, lift, grasp, and reach.
  • Visual and aural acuity and listening ability.
  • Adherence to the Energy Control Program.

  • Use required personal protective equipment: ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses, ANSI Cut 3 4544 gloves, ASTM F1117 electrical-hazard foot protection, and fire-rated long-sleeve shirts and pants; two layers of gloves are required throughout the year.
  • Work standard schedules plus overtime and weekend hours as required to meet production demands.

Responsibilities

  • Use job folders, production schedules, bills of materials, operating requirements, work instructions, inspection checklists, and related quality information to prepare for testing.
  • Verify job numbers, drawing revisions, schematics, specifications, and components against the bill of materials; confirm energized components are installed correctly.
  • Visually inspect units and electrical control panels for compliance with assembly and cosmetic standards, and perform terminal pull tests.
  • Perform ground checks, phase high-voltage wires, verify motor and compressor resistance, and conduct Hi Pot testing.
  • Energize units at specified voltages and test electrical devices, wiring, airflow, sensors, and safety devices; calibrate components to specifications.
  • Manipulate controller programs to validate inputs and outputs.
  • Follow lock-out/tag-out and energize/de-energize procedures when running units at specified voltage and amperage.
  • Test blower, fan, and wheel operation and direction; balance fans and blowers to engineering specifications; and document results.
  • Check crankcase heaters, pressure drops, fan speeds, burner systems, gas valves, shutoffs, airflow switches, timers, and energized-component voltage and amperage.
  • Install and operate software as required by system requirements.
  • Measure and record refrigerant readings, including subcooling, superheat, suction and liquid-line temperatures, and pressures.
  • Run units in automatic mode to simulate operating conditions, verify component operation and gauge accuracy, and investigate and report failures.
  • Test for heat and refrigerant leaks, locate leaks, inspect for water migration, verify chamber seals, and check liquid solenoid valve states before shipment.
  • Troubleshoot failed units, make defined adjustments, document defects on the unit scorecard, record adjustments, and install routine replacement components or notify production when parts are needed.
  • Complete quality-control run-test documents and notify engineering when unit markups are ready for as-built processing.
  • Notify cell leads when units have completed run testing and are ready for punch-off.
  • Complete in-process inspection and quality-gate checklists; maintain a clean and orderly work area and follow safety requirements.
  • Perform or assist with other operations and duties as assigned to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Participate in meetings and work groups to coordinate activities, communicate issues, resolve problems, obtain approvals, and stay informed about developments and policies.
