About The Position

The Route Driver represents Spee Dee Delivery while making deliveries and picking up freight. The role serves customers and shippers in a timely manner and includes safely handling, loading, and transporting a variety of freight. The position is based in Bloomington, Illinois. The schedule is Monday through Friday, starting at 7:30 a.m. and continuing until route completion. An additional 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week, and voluntary weekend overtime may be available as needed. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience and other relevant qualifications, skills, and internal equity. The role is full-time and nonexempt. Applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years of age.
• Hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record that meets company standards.
• Be able to pass a DOT physical exam.
• Be able to bend, lift, twist, and climb stairs while moving freight on and off the company vehicle.
• Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Be able to work with freight that may include hazardous materials, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
• Pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to operate a manual transmission, or willingness to learn.
• Good customer service skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
• Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
• Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
• Collect payments for certain delivered packages.
• Verify pickup contents against shipping papers.
• Notify management of problems or discrepancies.
• Maintain a professional personal appearance and keep the vehicle clean.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
