Route Driver - Sioux City, IA
About The Position
The Route Driver represents Spee Dee Delivery while delivering and picking up freight from customers and shippers. The role is based in Sioux City, Iowa, and works Monday through Friday beginning at 7:30 AM and continuing until the route is complete. An additional 10–15 hours of overtime may be expected each week, with voluntary weekend overtime available as needed. Overtime is paid at time and a half after 40 hours per week. Starting pay is $21.00–$26.25 per hour, based on experience and other relevant factors. The position requires timely freight handling, vehicle inspection, organized truck loading, customer service, and accurate shipment documentation. Drivers must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job, pass a DOT physical, and handle a range of freight, including hazardous materials and other regulated or specialized items.
Requirements
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license and a good driving record that meets company standards.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical exam.
- Ability to bend, lift, twist, climb stairs, and move freight on and off the company vehicle.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work with freight including hazardous material, perishable food, alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals.
- Ability to operate a manual transmission or willingness to learn.
- Good customer service skills and ability to work independently.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Responsibilities
- Deliver and pick up freight from customers and shippers in a timely manner.
- Inspect the vehicle and report mechanical problems.
- Load the truck in an organized manner to use space effectively and prevent package damage.
- Collect payments for certain delivered packages.
- Verify pickup contents against shipping papers.
- Notify management of problems or discrepancies.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance and keep the vehicle clean.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
