About The Position

Perform asphalt roller operator duties on an asphalt paving lay down crew. Operate a tandem or three-wheel steel roller to compact newly paved asphalt surfaces. The role may involve servicing and making normal operating adjustments to the equipment, guiding dump trucks while they back up to the hopper, and other duties as required. Work may involve long days, overtime, weekends, and some nights.

Requirements

One year of experience; the company will train the right person.
A valid North Carolina driver's license is encouraged.
Willingness to learn multiple tasks of the paving operation.
Ability to follow precise instructions and required safety rules and policies.
Reliable and trustworthy team player with a good attendance and safety record.
Ability to work Saturdays and Sundays when needed, as well as some nights.
A military base pass is needed for some positions.
Ability to perform the required motions, including standing, walking, stretching, bending, lifting, pulling, twisting, throwing, reaching, and squatting.
Ability to regularly lift 25 pounds or more and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
Ability to walk and stand for a full day of 12 to 15 hours.
Ability to work in sometimes extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Ability to work required overtime.
Must ride to and from work; if driving a company vehicle is required, must meet company driver qualification standards.

Responsibilities

Operate a tandem or three-wheel steel roller to compact newly paved asphalt surfaces.
Oil, grease, service, and make normal operating adjustments to equipment as needed.
Operate the machine from its platform and use levers, pedals, or the throttle to move and guide it.
Guide and direct dump trucks while they back up to the hopper, as needed.
Perform other duties as required.
