About The Position

Destro AI is hiring a Robotics Forward Deployed Engineer to own the software that runs MothershipOS in live customer warehouses. The role involves writing and maintaining production code, as well as serving as the engineering presence on-site when systems need to be deployed, stabilized, or restored. This is a field deployment position rather than a standard office-hours role. Regular work outside standard business hours, including nights and weekends, is expected. Go-lives are often scheduled during off-hours or weekend downtime windows. The role may be paged for production issues outside normal hours, with prompt remote or on-site response expected, and requires extensive travel to customer sites, sometimes on short notice. The engineer will deploy and validate Destro’s software stack in live warehouses and work with customer operations, IT, and engineering teams. The work spans production software, deployment tools, infrastructure, networking, and troubleshooting across the full stack, with a focus on improving system uptime, throughput, and reliability.

Requirements

  • 2 to 6 years of experience in systems engineering, robotics software, backend engineering, infrastructure, or field engineering.
  • Genuine software development experience; the role is not solely field support or troubleshooting.
  • Strong Python or C++ skills and ability to write maintainable, production-grade code.
  • Hands-on Docker/Docker Compose experience, including building, deploying, debugging, and versioning images.
  • Linux/server administration experience, including command line, logs, processes, systemd, and firewalls.
  • Networking fundamentals including DHCP, DNS, VLANs, static IP reservations, and TLS/certificates.
  • Experience with APIs and communication protocols such as REST, WebSockets, and MQTT.
  • Proficiency with Git and standard software development workflows.
  • Comfort working on-call outside standard hours and traveling on short notice.
  • Ability to operate independently in ambiguous, high-pressure environments without a fully specified solution.
  • Calm under pressure, direct with customers, and demonstrates strong ownership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AMRs, warehouse automation, or fleet management.
  • Cloud deployment experience, ideally with GCP.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus, or time-series databases.
  • WMS/WES/ERP integration experience.
  • Experience with robot task allocation, scheduling, or routing.
  • Experience with wearables, scanners, or other warehouse hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Write, test, and maintain production software services that run MothershipOS at customer sites, including deployment tooling and diagnostic utilities.
  • Design and build internal tools to make field deployments faster and more repeatable.
  • Translate field learnings into production-hardening fixes and improvements to the core codebase.
  • Maintain technical documentation and runbooks to support consistent diagnosis across sites.
  • Deploy and validate Destro’s software stack in live warehouses in collaboration with customer operations, IT, and engineering teams.
  • Own production issues end-to-end during launches and stabilization, including off-hours incidents.
  • Improve uptime, throughput, and reliability through code and infrastructure changes.
  • Build and maintain containerized services using Docker Compose on Destro-managed servers and edge devices.
  • Work with GCP cloud infrastructure for image management, versioning, and deployment tooling.
  • Configure and troubleshoot networking, including VLANs, DHCP, internal DNS, and certificate-based service security.
  • Debug issues across robot state faults, sensors, APIs, container networking, database queries, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Respond promptly to production pages outside normal working hours, remotely or on-site, as needed.
  • Travel extensively to customer sites, sometimes on short notice.
