Robot Performance Engineer

Dexory•Wallingford, CT

About The Position

Dexory is seeking a Robot Performance Engineer to resolve robot issues and document repeatable solutions. The role takes issues from L1 support and monitoring, diagnoses problems directly on robots, and resolves them where appropriate. It also requires recognizing when an issue should be escalated to L3 or Engineering and providing a clear, evidence-based handover. The engineer will investigate a range of operational problems, including connectivity, mapping and annotation, tower faults, and mission or deployment failures. They will create and maintain playbooks for recurring issues, support and train L1, Deployment, and Service teams, keep the knowledge centre and post-release digest current, and report recurring problems to Fleet Reliability so they can be addressed permanently.

Requirements

  • A technical degree in engineering, robotics, computer science, or a similar field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Confidence using Linux and the command line.
  • Willingness to learn ROS quickly.
  • A structured troubleshooting approach: form a hypothesis, test it, discard it, and proceed.
  • Ability to remain calm under operational pressure.
  • Clear written communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Robotics exposure is welcome but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Triage, diagnose, and resolve robot issues received from L1 support and monitoring.
  • Work directly on robots by reading logs, inspecting ROS topics and services, interacting with CAN, checking and changing configuration, disabling sensors when safe, and restarting services.
  • Request a version rollback from V&V when a release is implicated.
  • Investigate connectivity problems, mapping and annotation issues, tower faults, and mission or deployment failures.
  • Escalate issues to L3 or Engineering when appropriate, providing an evidence-based handover that explains observations, troubleshooting performed, and causes ruled out.
  • Write and maintain a playbook for each repeat issue resolved.
  • Train and support L1, Deployment, and Service teams to reduce escalations.
  • Keep the knowledge centre and post-release digest current.
  • Feed recurring problems to Fleet Reliability for permanent resolution.
