About The Position

The Cuban Heritage Collection at the University of Miami Libraries invites applications for the 2027–2028 Roberto C. Goizueta Distinguished Presidential Residence program. The program welcomes senior scholars and public intellectuals from around the world to spend one semester (five months) in residence at the Cuban Heritage Collection, using its materials on Cuba and the global Cuban diaspora to advance research and writing on a project of broad scholarly or public significance, typically a book. Two one-semester fellowships will be awarded for the Fall and Spring semesters. The 2027–2028 residences will begin no earlier than August 1, 2027, and conclude no later than May 31, 2028. Fellows are expected to conduct research in or write from the Collection for at least three full days each week, with exceptions possible for short-term travel, illness, and holidays. They will deliver a public lecture toward the end of their residency and are encouraged to attend Collection events. Although this is not a teaching position, fellows are expected to be open to engaging with University of Miami faculty, Collection patrons, and students in the Program in Cuban Studies, including through class visits or individual consultations. Eligible applicants include senior faculty, independent scholars, curators, and other nonfiction authors from the United States and abroad who are recognized leaders in their fields. Applicants should notify their home department or institution that they are applying and explain how Collection materials are relevant to their proposed project and appropriate to the requested residency period. Applications are reviewed by Collection faculty and members of its Academic Advisory Committee. Evaluation considers the proposal’s substantive merit, the applicant’s qualifications and experience, and the demonstrated relevance of Collection materials to the proposed research.
