About The Position

The Head of the Greek Program leads the vision, strategy, and continuous development of Socrates Academy’s Greek language-and-culture program across all grades. The role supports the existing partial-immersion model, with approximately two hours of daily instruction, and establishes the instructional, staffing, and curricular conditions needed to assess and potentially support a future full-immersion track. The position evaluates program expansion in light of enrollment, staffing capacity, research, and community readiness, while addressing summer language loss and balancing academic goals, enrollment realities, and the school’s mission. The Head oversees Greek language and culture curriculum, instruction, assessment, and alignment across grade levels and classrooms. Responsibilities include supporting inquiry-based and Socratic teaching, coordinating Greek and English programs, promoting cross-curricular integration—including mathematics—and helping teachers reinforce Greek learning even when they do not speak Greek. The role conducts or oversees applied research and turns findings into program strategies, teacher development, and improvements. The position recruits, onboards, mentors, develops, and evaluates Greek-language faculty and instructional staff, and makes hiring and placement recommendations to the Head of School. It coordinates with Greek government agencies on teacher hiring and works with an immigration attorney on visa processes. The Head also monitors student outcomes, establishes program benchmarks, reports metrics and recommendations to the Board and its committees, and serves as a standing member of the Board’s Curriculum & Instruction Committee. As the school’s lead ambassador for Greek language and culture, the Head develops family and community partnerships, coordinates cultural and extracurricular opportunities, educates families about language development and immersion, and develops resources to support Greek learning outside school, especially during summer. The role also develops study-abroad programs and oversees partnerships with Greek educational institutions. It ensures compliance with applicable state, charter, accreditation, and international teacher-placement requirements, maintains documentation, and works a school-year schedule with additional summer planning and professional development duties. Occasional travel for conferences, workshops, or professional collaborations may be required.
