Registered Nurse position in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with 20 beds. The unit cares for patients with congenital abnormalities, feeders and growers, and patients requiring ventilator support; it does not care for ECMO patients. The position includes 12-hour shifts, either 6:45 a.m.–7:15 p.m. or 6:45 p.m.–7:15 a.m., and requires working every other weekend and holidays as part of the permanent staff rotation. Nurses receive three shifts of unit-specific orientation. The unit has a charge nurse who does not typically take patients, no nurse aides, and no floating. Neonatologists, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy services are available 24/7; respiratory therapy is on the unit. A telemetry technician monitors patients. Nurses must read and interpret strips and titrate drips; respiratory therapists typically manage ventilators.
