About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct, age-specific care to patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care. The role integrates technical nursing skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs, support prevention of illness and injury, maintain wellness, and provide comfort. The nurse safely administers prescribed medications and identifies incompatibilities or interactions, documents care accurately, and provides direction and education to members of the health care team. Responsibilities and clinical expectations vary by Clinical Nurse level: Clinical Nurse I develops leadership skills at the unit level; Clinical Nurse II applies mastered clinical skills to a patient population, recognizes and responds to changes in patient situations, mobilizes resources for patient and family needs, and assumes unit-level leadership responsibilities; Clinical Nurse III applies clinical knowledge to a patient population, anticipates and responds to changes, and serves as a clinical role model. Practice follows physician or licensed independent provider orders, the regulations governing nursing practice in Virginia, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing, national nursing practice standards, and VCUHS policies and procedures. The nurse organizes work and may delegate and supervise assignments carried out by RNs, LPNs, care partners, unit secretaries, and others. Clinicians work shifts, weekends, and holidays; shift rotations and schedules are set with the Nurse Manager or Practice Manager and may be adjusted to meet unit requirements. The role serves age-specific groups as appropriate to the unit assignment. The posting lists compensation ranges by level: Clinical Nurse I, $34.00–$49.50; Clinical Nurse II, $34.65–$51.97; Clinical Nurse III, $36.38–$54.58.
