About The Position

The RN Surgical Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the continuum of surgical care between clinic operations and the ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This role focuses on patient safety, surgical readiness, communication, workflow efficiency, and continuity of care for cataract, refractive, and ophthalmic surgical patients. The RN Surgical Coordinator serves as a clinical liaison between surgeons, clinic staff, ASC staff, anesthesia providers, and patients to ensure efficient and standardized perioperative processes. This position also provides direct procedural support by scrubbing and assisting during surgical days and supporting LASIK operations.

Requirements

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, clinic staff, and ASC personnel.
  • Ability to travel between CES locations as operational needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Ophthalmology, ASC, OR, or surgical coordination experience preferred.
  • Ophthalmic surgical scrub and assist experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmic surgical workflows and patient care processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate surgical scheduling and readiness for ophthalmic surgical procedures.
  • Review and ensure completion of surgical documentation in preparation for each surgical day.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient education and communication as needed.
  • Assist in reducing day-of-surgery delays, cancellations, and workflow interruptions through proactive chart and patient review.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for patients and staff regarding surgical processes and expectations.
  • Facilitate communication between clinic staff, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and ASC personnel.
  • Support continuity of care between across clinic and ASC.
  • Scrub and assist during surgical days to support surgeon efficiency, patient safety, and OR workflow continuity.
  • Assist with room turnover efficiency and perioperative workflow support as needed.
  • Support standardization of clinic-to-ASC workflows and surgical preparation processes.
  • Assist with quality assurance initiatives and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Support patient safety initiatives and best practices throughout surgical operations.
  • Facilitate EMR documentation across locations.
  • Support LASIK clinic and procedural days, including patient flow coordination, medication coordination, education, documentation, and procedural support.
  • Assist in maintaining consistent LASIK workflows and patient experience standards.
  • Assist with process improvement initiatives related to efficiency, patient satisfaction, and surgical outcomes.
  • Promote strong communication and collaboration between clinic, ASC, and physician teams.
  • Support organizational growth and operational consistency across CES locations.
  • Maintain compliance with all ASC, OSHA, HIPAA, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining quality preparation and documentation standards.
