About The Position

This is an opportunity for graduating RN students to join a structured residency program designed to bridge the gap between school and independent practice. The program focuses on developing a solid clinical foundation by building confidence, knowledge, and skills under the mentorship of experienced nursing staff. The program is located at UR Medicine Thompson Health, a Magnet® designated healthcare provider in the Finger Lakes region. The position is full-time, 36 hours per week, with 12-hour shifts on a D/E/N rotation, including weekends and holidays as per unit standards. The residency program consists of two phases: an initial orientation with a skilled preceptor (12-16 weeks) and a subsequent one-year RN Residency Program with monthly meetings and support for professional development.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved school of nursing (2 or 4 year degrees).
  • Successful completion of NYS nursing licensing exam.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Good Communication skills.
  • Skilled in customer service.
  • Team player.
  • Reliability and flexibility.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Previous healthcare experience preferred (e.g., Nurse Aide, LPN, Tech).

Responsibilities

  • Assures that the environment is optimal to meet the needs of each patient by safe and effective organization, utilization and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Responsible for patient teaching, coordinating the activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining the standards of professional nursing practice.
  • Deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction of experienced nursing staff.
