About The Position

Pella Regional Health Center’s RN New Graduate Residency is a unique employment opportunity for RN's who are looking to train in several specialty nursing positions within PRHC. The resident will have the opportunity to orient to our Medical Surgical Unit, Post-Partum and the Emergency Department. The Surgery department and Hospice will also be potential opportunities as time permits. The shifts will be balanced between night and day shifts and last for about 6 months. As new graduates, candidates will be supported in a supplemental Nurse Residency program. After the six month time frame, the candidate may choose to apply for an open position in a specialty area such as Labor and Delivery, Med Surg/ ICU or the Emergency department. The candidate may also continue to float to areas as needed to fill in with current staffing vacancies or leave of absences in the areas where he/she has been trained. The RN New graduate can continue throughout the first year, i.e. if the employee is interested in ICU, Labor & Delivery & Emergency nursing with the understanding that a commitment to those departments for a minimum of a year after completion of the specialty course work is desired.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited RN program.
  • Current Registration and Licensure in the State of Iowa as an RN.
  • Must be in good standing with the Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Technical and critical thinking skills in relation to sound nursing judgment.
  • Knowledge of nursing practices as they relate to acute care.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Train in several specialty nursing positions within PRHC, including Medical Surgical Unit, Post-Partum, and the Emergency Department.
  • Potentially gain experience in Surgery and Hospice departments.
  • Work a combination of day and night shifts for approximately 6 months.
  • Participate in a supplemental Nurse Residency program.
  • Apply for open positions in specialty areas after the initial 6-month period.
  • Float to trained areas to cover staffing vacancies or leaves of absence.
  • Commit to a minimum of one year in a chosen specialty department (e.g., ICU, Labor & Delivery, Emergency) after completing specialty coursework.
  • Maintain licensure through continuing education.
  • Complete Basic Life Support and Dependent Adult & Child Abuse training.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and through written documentation.
  • Demonstrate empathetic listening skills, tact, and kindness.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Utilize basic computer knowledge.
  • Apply technical and critical thinking skills for sound nursing judgment.
  • Apply knowledge of nursing practices in acute care settings.
