About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in a psychiatric setting at Research Psychiatric Center in Kansas City, MO. The role involves providing care across several units including ADOL (ages 12-18), Serenity (lower acuity adult), ITU (higher acuity adult with thought disorders), SRAD (senior lifestyle patients), and VINE (lower acuity adult). The hospital emphasizes HCA's ICARE values (integrity, compassion, always, respect) and AIDET communication behaviors to ensure positive patient interactions. The nursing staff will work three 12-hour shifts per day, seven days a week, with potential for floating to units with the greatest need. Documentation is done via Meditech.

Requirements

• Active Blue Card
• CPI certification required
• BLS certification required
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications
• Ability to assess patients' mental health status
• Ability to develop individualized care plans
• Ability to administer psychiatric medications
• Ability to provide crisis intervention
• Therapeutic communication skills
• Ability to monitor patients for physical and psychological symptoms

Responsibilities

• Assess patients' mental health status, including recognizing signs of psychiatric disorders, substance use, and behavioral problems.
• Develop individualized care plans based on the needs of patients with mental health and behavioral issues.
• Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions.
• Provide immediate, short-term support to patients in crisis (e.g., suicidal ideation, aggression), including de-escalation techniques and appropriate medication management.
• Build trust and rapport with patients through effective communication skills, active listening, and empathy.
• Monitor patients for physical and psychological symptoms, including vital signs, mental status changes, and medication effects.
