RN, Pediatric Intermediate Care

Oregon Health & Science University•Portland, OR

About The Position

The Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit provides intermediate-level care for medical/surgical patients from birth through age 18, excluding obstetric patients. Patients may include those receiving non-ICU neurosurgical care, Video EEG, spectrum scans, peritoneal dialysis, chronic tracheostomy/ventilation, selected hyperbilirubinemia and cardiac surgery care, research care, and complex postoperative care such as orthopedic spine surgery, craniotomies, and bladder augmentations. The unit’s nursing care is similar to a step-down intensive care unit rather than an acute-care floor. Patients may have multiple organ system failures and range from one day old to 18 years old, and occasionally up to 22 when still followed by pediatric physicians. The unit accepts patients from a variety of locations and service lines and facilitates internal transfers when patients need intermediate nursing care unavailable on their regularly assigned units. The role includes orientation for experienced nurses. External candidates complete OHSU and Nursing New Employee Orientation for about a week, followed by a Transition to Practice program, specialty fellowship or fellowship learning pathway, or orientation experience lasting from 3 days to 26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply. Three positions are available.
