About The Position

The NIH Clinical Center is seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week assignment in Bethesda, MD. This role involves providing perioperative nursing care, rotating between scrub and circulating duties. The RN will be responsible for preparing the OR suite, maintaining the sterile field, performing counts, and documenting care according to hospital and Joint Commission standards. The position requires participation in intermittent on-call coverage, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• 2–3 years of recent acute care hospital Operating Room experience
• Must be fully competent in BOTH scrub and circulate roles across a range of surgical cases.
• Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical instrumentation, counts, and intraoperative patient safety standards.
• Able to anticipate surgeon needs and adapt quickly across multiple surgical specialties in a research hospital OR.
• Current BLS (AHA or Red Cross)
• ACLS
• BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma from an accredited program
• Passed NCLEX
• Any state license works (current, active, unrestricted)

Responsibilities

• Provide perioperative nursing care in the NIH Clinical Center Operating Room, rotating between scrub and circulating roles as assigned.
• Prepare the OR suite, maintain the sterile field, perform counts, and document intraoperative care in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission standards.
• Participate in intermittent on-call coverage (14–17 times per month) for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
