About The Position

ChildServe’s RN Nurse Residency program is designed to support new RNs in their first year of nursing, helping them build confidence in both their clinical and professional skills. Participants will work full-time within one of ChildServe's inpatient settings, including Pediatric/Adolescent Complex Medical units, the Pediatric Rehabilitation unit, or the Medical Group Home. The program includes online lectures and discussions through the University of Iowa's nurse residency program, focusing on communication, professional responsibilities, and decision-making in the first six months. From months 7-12, residents will engage in a 'Professionalism in Action Experience' at ChildServe. The program also features monthly check-ins with a ChildServe Clinical Educator for development support, hands-on practice with pediatric sub-specialty clinical skills, and attainment of CEUs.

Requirements

One year or less of RN experience
Current valid license as a Registered Nurse in Iowa. Applicants planning to attain a RN license in the next 6 months are welcome to apply.
Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 90 days and before working independently.
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing and speaking the English language.

Responsibilities

Within the nursing scope of practice, physician’s orders, and the care plan, make decisions and deliver a full range of nursing care based on the fundamentals of the nursing process.
Maintain accurate, completed, and timely records as defined by nursing standards of practice and ChildServe policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively, respectfully, and professionally with residents, physicians, families, school personnel, ChildServe staff, and others to assure assigned child’s care needs are assessed, communicated, and met.
Provide training to patients, families, and staff as needed to help advance the skills and knowledge of all people associated with a child’s care delivery.
Demonstrate good stewardship of ChildServe equipment, supplies, and environment.
