About The Position

The Cardiac Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing and assisting with cardiac stress testing, including exercise treadmill tests (ETTs) and pharmacologic stress tests, in support of nuclear cardiology examinations. This role requires advanced cardiac assessment skills including rhythm interpretation, knowledge of cardiac physiology, and the ability to recognize and respond to cardiac emergencies while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and accurate diagnostic results. Provides nursing support for other cardiology areas in the department as required.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing (RN) program
  • Current RN license in the applicable state
  • BLS (required)
  • ACLS (required)
  • Advanced ECG interpretation skills (required)
  • Minimum of 3 years of cardiac, critical care, or telemetry nursing experience required
  • Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
  • Proficiency in ECG rhythm interpretation and recognition of ischemic changes
  • Ability to manage high-acuity situations calmly and effectively
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
  • Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ETTs, stress echo, nuclear stress testing, or non-invasive cardiology strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform and monitor exercise treadmill tests (ETTs) for nuclear stress testing and Stress Echo procedures in accordance with established protocols
  • Prepare patients for nuclear cardiology stress exams, including patient education, assessment, chart review, and informed consent verification
  • Administer and monitor pharmacologic stress agents (e.g., regadenoson, adenosine, dobutamine) per physician orders and protocol
  • Continuously monitor ECG, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and patient symptoms during stress testing
  • Accurately recognize and interpret cardiac rhythms, ischemic changes, and abnormal responses to exercise or pharmacologic stress
  • Respond promptly to cardiac emergencies, including arrhythmia, chest pain, hypotension, or cardiac arrest
  • Collaborate closely with cardiologists, nuclear medicine technologists, and other healthcare staff
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
  • Document assessments, procedures, patient responses, and outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Maintain and verify readiness of emergency equipment, including crash cart and defibrillator
  • Provide post-test monitoring, patient education, and discharge instructions as appropriate
