About The Position

MU Health Care is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join their nursing team in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). This 30-bed, high-acuity unit specializes in complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions, serving patients with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, seizure disorders, and those recovering from neurosurgery. The role involves assessing and meeting diverse patient needs, including pain management and medication education. RNs will evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, maintain hospital standards, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. This position is part of a Weekend Program, requiring three 12-hour shifts on days, with significant weekend shift differentials and a sign-on bonus. The unit is involved in clinical research and partners with the Nurse Residency Program and School of Medicine, offering professional development opportunities.

Requirements

  • Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.
  • One (1) year of RN experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, sets goals, and prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative patient needs, including discharge planning.
  • Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report and symptoms of pain promptly. Utilizes an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment (0-10 numerical scale, FACES, or the FLACC.)
  • Demonstrates an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and significant others about their medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.
  • Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.
  • Participates in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups. Understands the attendance and punctuality guidelines, and adherence to the dress code.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Provides quality patient care and works with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.
  • May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.
