About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Neuroscience ICU. This role involves performing a competent level of nursing care using the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN will utilize clinical knowledge and skills to meet the standards required by the specific clinical area. The Neuroscience Critical Care Unit provides intensive care for patients with severe neurological conditions such as strokes, brain hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, tumors, and seizures, utilizing a multidisciplinary team and advanced monitoring technology.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year emergency, intermediate care, intensive care or med/surg highly preferred.

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Utilize the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Possess clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Provide intensive care for patients with severe, life-threatening neurological conditions.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Utilize advanced monitoring technology like continuous EEG monitoring, and intracranial pressure monitoring.
  • Coordinate care to stabilize and support patients.
