About The Position

The RN Inpatient Supervisor provides shift-based clinical and operational leadership for hospital units within a Florida behavioral health hospital and addiction treatment center. This position is not a direct supervisor of staff; however, it serves as the designated shift leader responsible for coordinating patient flow, maintaining appropriate staffing levels, supporting safe nursing practice, and ensuring urgent and emergent needs are addressed promptly and appropriately for patients receiving inpatient psychiatric, crisis stabilization, detoxification, and substance use disorder treatment services.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Florida, or eligibility to obtain Florida RN licensure prior to employment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of professional nursing experience required.
  • Applicant must maintain active Florida RN licensure and meet all organizational, regulatory, and continuing education requirements applicable to inpatient behavioral health and addiction treatment services.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Experience in inpatient behavioral health, psychiatric, crisis stabilization, detoxification, substance use disorder treatment, or addiction recovery services strongly preferred.
  • Prior charge nurse, shift lead, or comparable clinical leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide designated shift leadership for assigned inpatient hospital units, including psychiatric, crisis stabilization, detoxification, and addiction recovery services.
  • Coordinate daily shift operations by assessing patient acuity, census, admissions, discharges, transfers, staffing assignments, and immediate unit needs.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels during the assigned shift by adjusting assignments, identifying coverage needs, escalating staffing concerns, and collaborating with nursing leadership or on-call leadership as needed.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for RNs, LPNs, Behavioral Health Technicians, and interdisciplinary team members during the assigned shift without functioning as the direct supervisor or manager of record.
  • Respond promptly to urgent and emergent patient care needs, including psychiatric escalation, medical changes, withdrawal complications, safety events, medication concerns, accidents, injuries, and other high-risk situations.
  • Ensure appropriate escalation, notification, and documentation of significant clinical, operational, safety, staffing, or regulatory concerns in accordance with hospital policy and Florida requirements.
  • Support timely nursing assessment, medication administration, withdrawal monitoring, vital sign review, safety checks, infection prevention practices, and response to changes in patient condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing leadership, admissions staff, and interdisciplinary treatment teams to support safe patient flow and continuity of care.
  • Promote a safe, therapeutic, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented environment that supports de-escalation, patient dignity, suicide risk mitigation, substance withdrawal safety, and behavioral health stabilization.
  • Participate in shift huddles, communication handoffs, incident follow-up, safety rounds, and operational updates to promote accountability, teamwork, and consistent practice across units and shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the RN Inpatient Nurse Manager, Director of Nursing, Hospital Administrator, Program Director, or other designated leadership.
