About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a rotating shift position with scheduled weekly hours of 36. The compensation range is $34.00 - $48.00 per hour, with a sign-on bonus available to eligible applicants. This is a non-union position. The department features a busy 40-bed Level IV NICU that cares for infants with conditions including prematurity, sepsis, respiratory distress, surgical emergencies, birth-related trauma, and other medical conditions. The NICU is equipped with advanced technology such as synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation, sophisticated pulmonary functioning testing, high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and whole-body cooling. The air/ground flight team, operating out of the NICU, admits approximately 30% of the infants. The staff includes Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Neonatologists, RNs, Patient Care Techs, and Formula Technicians. Specially trained flight nurses, APPs, and Respiratory Therapists provide transport services from North Dakota, northern South Dakota, and western Minnesota. Respiratory therapists are always staffed in the NICU, providing respiratory care and direct patient care, and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners are on-site 24/7. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is offered with a commitment for eligible applicants. Two years of RN NICU experience is required, though Sanford NICU interns and practicum students may be considered. This position is eligible for additional night and weekend differential pay. Applicable experience will be reviewed and factored into any potential offer. Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
  • Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
  • Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications.
  • Two years of RN NICU experience required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients.
  • Collaborating with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care.
  • Demonstrating competency and practicing within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizing appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting.
  • Caring for patients in all phases of preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up as patients move along the continuum of care.
  • Planning and coordinating care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions.
  • Functioning within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure.
  • Adhering to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.
