About The Position

Neurosurgical Registered Nurse (RN) The neurosurgical unit provides exceptional opportunities to care for a diverse range of patients. Professionals in this environment will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams that specialize in brain tumors, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular procedures, and epilepsy surgery. This unit is a mixed-acuity environment featuring both floor-level care and a high-acuity step-down unit designed for patients requiring complex medical needs, including hemodynamic and neurological monitoring.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in step-down or progressive care units (PCU).
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York (NY License ONLY).
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Telemetry experience is necessary.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is required.
  • The ideal candidate will have a background in high acuity stroke and neurosurgery, showcasing their ability to handle complex patient cases effectively and compassionately.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS certification is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough neurological assessments and Q1 neuro checks.
  • Manage advanced care for patients with EVDs, lumbar drains, and subdural drains.
  • Administer specialized solutions such as 3% NS and manage Cardene drips.
  • Monitor and manage arterial lines and participate in advanced procedures such as carotid endarterectomy and aneurysm coiling/clipping.
  • Assist with Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) insertion and VP shunt management.
  • Maintain expertise in seizure management protocols.
