About The Position

The RN IBCLC Lactation Consultant applies in-depth knowledge of maternal and neonatal acute and chronic conditions that may affect breastfeeding. The consultant assesses and manages complex lactation problems and helps mothers attain their individual breastfeeding goals. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, the role provides consultation, education, and mentoring to nurses, health care professionals, and patients.

The position provides direct care for inpatient mother-baby couplets and neonates; develops, delivers, evaluates, and revises childbirth preparation, newborn care, sibling preparation, postpartum, and breastfeeding classes; and develops education and training for nursing staff, medical staff, and health care students. The role also assists with the breast pump rental station and manages workflow in the perinatal education department. Additional duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse licensure.
• International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification.
• Relevant work experience; experience level listed as 1 year.
• Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care for inpatient mother-baby couplets and neonates.
• Develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and revise childbirth preparation, newborn care, sibling preparation, postpartum, and breastfeeding classes for expectant and new parents.
• Develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and revise preceptorships, in-service programs, workshops, and continuing education classes about breastfeeding management for nursing staff, medical staff, and students in health care-related fields.
• Develop staff education materials.
• Assist in managing the breast pump rental station.
• Manage workflow in the perinatal education department.
• Consult, educate, and mentor nurses, health care professionals, and patients.
