About The Position

The Risk & Underwriting Leadership Development Program (RULDP) Evolve at The Cigna Group is designed to support the transition from academia to industry, ideal for recent graduates and early-career professionals who are curious, motivated, and eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. Through immersive training, mentorship, and real responsibility, participants will gain the confidence and expertise to evaluate risk, influence strategy, and build a career with purpose and impact. The program focuses on learning underwriting by assessing risk, recommending pricing and terms, applying quantitative analysis, managing a book of business, collaborating with sales, negotiating with clients, and sharing insights to improve underwriting outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Demonstrated quantitative capability (coursework, projects, or experience) and comfort working with math and numbers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present recommendations with clarity.
  • Must have participated in and completed a Cigna Group internship prior to applying for this position.
  • Eligible for employment in the United States and would not require visa support including H-1B or CPT/OPT/STEM, etc., now or in the future.
  • If working from home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

  • Preferred majors/minors: Risk Management, Insurance, Business, Economics, Finance, Management, Mathematics, or Healthcare.
  • If your degree is outside these majors/minors, you must have relevant prior experience or an internship in the analytics, finance, or insurance space.

Responsibilities

  • Assess risk characteristics and recommend pricing and terms that balance competitiveness with financial discipline.
  • Apply quantitative analysis and underwriting judgment to evaluate profitability drivers and articulate trade-offs.
  • After training, help manage a book of business by monitoring performance, identifying trends, and taking proactive action.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Account Management to design solutions that meet customer needs and support retention.
  • Negotiate with clients and brokers using clear rationale, professional presence, and strong follow-through.
  • Share insights and best practices that improve underwriting consistency, efficiency, and outcomes.
