About The Position

The Risk Manager & Regulatory Analyst will perform daily tasks to address and/or document risk related incidents and assist in supporting Regulatory requirements. The Risk Manager & Regulatory Analyst will assist with facilitation of RLDatix and Press Ganey operations facility-wide risk. The Risk Manager & Regulatory Analyst will assist in supporting regulatory requirements and systems to detect, monitor, prevent, organize, measure, investigate, report, and manage patient adverse events, incident reports, other indicators of potential patient harm, and aid with medical malpractice claims as applicable. The position will assist in the implementation of strategic direction to ensure efficient and effective day to day operations as guided by the Director of Risk Management and Regulatory.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Graduate of an accredited school with a Bachelor degree (Master’s degree preferred) with focus on clinical, healthcare education, or applicable field preferred.
  • Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements required.
  • Previous Risk Management or healthcare related experience preferred. (5-7 years preferred)
  • Previous education, customer service, or investigation related experience preferred.
  • Experience with various computer software, such as Excel, Microsoft Word preferred.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office or related products required and experience in database management is desired.
  • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
  • Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) certification within first three years of employment required.
  • High-energy, organized, persistent, and creative individual with strong communications, interpersonal, and systems thinking skills.
  • Ability to function effectively, independently, and efficiently in high volume- dynamic work environment.
  • Must have effective written & verbal communication skills.
  • Must type 50 WPM on a computer keyboard.
  • Knowledge of mathematical calculations and medical terminology.
  • Ability to work alone with minimal supervision and in a group setting.
  • Ability to prioritize according to deadlines.
  • Ability to perform numerous tasks at one time.

Nice To Haves

  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Director of Risk Management and Regulatory in all aspects of Accreditation and Regulatory preparation, activities, and follow up to ensure survey readiness.
  • Maintain and develop processes and systems to support Joint Commission Resource (JCR) portal and tracers.
  • Develop and provide education for staff to facilitate knowledge and compliance with use.
  • Co-lead developer, implementer, and educator of RLDatix processes and systems to support Risk Management staff.
  • Develop monthly RL NOTE report of issues/patterns/trends to be provided to Director of Risk Management and Regulatory.
  • Work with interdisciplinary departments to educate on NOTES and user expectations.
  • Analyze Medical Staff RL reports, provide to Director of Risk Management & Regulatory and others as directed, and assist with Medical Staff presentations, as needed.
  • Complete detailed Lost Property Report on a quarterly basis, sending to Director of Risk Management and Regulatory and Vice President of Legal and Compliance for review.
  • Participate in meeting with CEO to discuss report results, as needed.
  • Contributor of Press Ganey processes and systems to support Risk Management staff.
  • Proactively evaluate areas of organizational risk based on internal assessment and external benchmarking and implement strategies that promote patient and staff safety.
  • Promote the occurrence reporting process including trending and reporting of results, identification of problem-prone areas, and facilitation of prevention initiatives.
  • Assist with direction of investigation of all potentially compensable events (preventable adverse events), including facilitation of acquisition of evidence related to the event.
  • Assist with the review of serious occurrences requiring root-cause analysis or failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Disseminate lessons learned and process improvement plans.
  • Provide information on occurrences to director, administration, legal and third party insurer, as appropriate, to provide detailed reports on all serious incidents, claims, and risk-related issues.
  • Assist with sentinel events and other serious occurrences and provide expert advice on the management and reporting of such events to administration, leadership, and staff.
  • Partner with management to conduct immediate/appropriate response to any serious occurrence/complaint representing patient safety variance or injury to patient, visitor or employee.
  • Keep up to date with new and revised state and federal regulations and statutes related to hospitals and patient care.
  • Actively participate in and/or lead a variety of committees as assigned.
  • Annually evaluate risk management and patient safety program for improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with the appropriate disclosure of serious events to patients and/or families according to policy.
  • Coordinate reimbursement claims for lost and/or damaged personal items as appropriate.
