About The Position

The Ride Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and refurbishment of Dutch Wonderland’s amusement rides and attractions. This is a hands-on technical position working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-related ride systems. Responsibilities range from daily pre-opening inspections and in-season repairs to detailed off-season rehabilitation and component rebuilding. While occasional facilities or general property maintenance may be required, amusement ride maintenance is the primary responsibility of this role. This position plays an essential role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of the park’s rides and attractions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Relevant work experience may also be considered.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to comply with Pennsylvania Child Labor Laws.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet company requirements for authorized drivers.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must successfully complete required equipment-specific, safety, regulatory, and amusement ride training and obtain certifications required for assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to read and understand English-language technical documentation and safety procedures and communicate safety information effectively.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, balance, reach, and work on foot for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and position objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolds, platforms, aerial lifts, and ride structures at heights up to 100 feet.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, machinery areas, pits, tunnels, and other non-conventional work locations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, direct sunlight, humidity, rain, snow, and other changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery, high noise levels, vibration, electrical equipment, hydraulic pressure, oils, fuels, chemicals, lubricants, paints, and greases.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience in mechanical, industrial, automotive, heavy equipment, manufacturing, or similar maintenance is preferred.
  • Equivalent technical training or relevant experience may be considered.
  • Previous experience maintaining roller coasters, amusement rides, attractions, or other complex electromechanical equipment is highly desirable but not required.
  • Technical-school, apprenticeship, military, vocational, or college training in industrial maintenance, mechanical technology, mechatronics, welding, electrical systems, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Working knowledge of several of the following: Mechanical power-transmission systems, Bearings, shafts, chains, couplings, and gear drives, Hydraulic and pneumatic systems, Motors and basic electrical systems, Welding and fabrication, Pumps, small engines, or industrial equipment.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, inspection criteria, and written procedures.
  • Ability to disassemble, inspect, repair, reassemble, and test machines and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize unsafe or abnormal equipment conditions.
  • Ability to remain calm, communicate clearly, and work effectively during time-sensitive attraction repairs.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to use computerized maintenance and inspection systems.
  • Bilingual language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily pre-opening inspections and operational testing of amusement rides and attractions.
  • Complete scheduled preventive maintenance in accordance with manufacturer requirements, park procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control-related equipment issues.
  • Respond promptly to ride trouble calls and operational interruptions.
  • Inspect, repair, rebuild, adjust, or replace components including bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, brakes, wheels, restraints, chains, sprockets, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, sensors, switches, and related equipment.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, electrical meters, torque tools, pressure gauges, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Safely disassemble equipment, identify the cause of failure, complete repairs, and correctly reassemble and test machinery.
  • Participate in annual and off-season ride rehabilitation, including major inspections, component replacement, refurbishment, painting, corrosion prevention, and seasonal preparation.
  • Assist with welding, fabrication, equipment installation, attraction modifications, and major repair projects within assigned training and qualifications.
  • Complete inspection records, preventive maintenance documentation, repair work orders, and computerized maintenance records accurately and on time.
  • Communicate ride status, recurring issues, safety concerns, parts needs, and outstanding corrective work to Maintenance Leadership.
  • Follow all lockout/tagout, fall-protection, confined-space, hot-work, hazardous-energy, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Maintain tools, shops, storage areas, mechanical rooms, and work locations in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Provide occasional support for facilities, property, vehicle, or general maintenance needs when operationally necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Maintenance Leadership.
