RF/Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer

Apple•Cupertino, CA
•$184,700 - $277,600•Onsite

About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring an RF/Analog/Mixed Signal Engineer for work in Cupertino, California, and various unanticipated locations throughout the United States. The role involves specifying analog portions of integrated circuits and optimizing whole-system solutions in close collaboration with system engineers. The engineer will model and validate architectures, design and simulate circuit blocks, prepare designs for formal reviews, and drive layout and top-level integration validation. The role also includes layout-based extraction and performance verification, understanding electromagnetic and reliability/aging flows, and defining production and bench-level test plans. The engineer will collaborate with test and production engineers on PCB design, off-chip component selection, production testing, lab measurements, yield analysis, and chip-yield improvements. The position requires 40 hours per week. The base salary range is $184,700–$277,600 per year, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple also describes employee stock programs, comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, product discounts and free services, and reimbursement for certain career-related educational expenses. The role might also be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments and relocation.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience designing analog-to-digital converters, including delta-sigma modulator ADCs.
  • Experience designing low-dropout regulators, including regulated supplies for analog design.
  • Experience with cellular RF lineup modeling and analysis, lineup simulations such as IP2, and defining specifications for each block in the lineup.
  • Experience designing operational amplifiers with unity-gain bandwidth greater than 1 GHz.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Simulink, and Virtuoso for block behavior, block arrangement, system simulation, and performance prediction.
  • Experience using Cadence tools including Spectre, Virtuoso, QRC, Star-RC, and Calibre DRC and LVS.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to specifications for analog portions of integrated circuits and optimize whole-system solutions in collaboration with system engineers.
  • Perform behavioral modeling to validate architectures using MATLAB, Cadence, Spectre, Simulink, and System Verilog tools.
  • Design circuit blocks and document designs for formal design reviews.
  • Use Cadence tools and analog fundamentals to create block schematics, run simulations, and make design tradeoffs.
  • Drive mask design and implement layout views of designs; work with and supervise layout engineers using knowledge of deep-submicron technology.
  • Run top-level simulations to validate integration.
  • Run layout-based extractions using QRC and Star-RC and verify performance.
  • Understand electromagnetic, reliability, and aging flows.
  • Define production- and bench-level test plans.
  • Work with test and production engineers to drive PCB design and choose appropriate off-chip components for testing.
  • Use automation tools such as Tableau to review results.
  • Take lab measurements to validate analog designs using equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Review yield and lab test results and drive bug fixes.
  • Work with test engineers to understand production fabrication defects, patterns, and antenna rules to improve chip yield.

Benefits

  • Employee stock programs, including discretionary restricted stock unit awards and the option to purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Comprehensive medical and dental coverage.
  • Retirement benefits.
  • Discounted products and free services.
