About The Position

HNTB is hiring a Returning Inspector I to conduct on-site construction inspections for projects supporting its clients. The role provides inspection services to verify compliance with plans and specifications, prepares required contract documentation, and follows established Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures. This opportunity is exclusively for current or former HNTB interns.

The position is available in Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City, Missouri; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Overland Park, Kansas, at the 129th Street or Sprint Parkway locations.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• One year of construction experience.
• All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Previous HNTB internship experience.
• Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
• Ability to recognize, document, and escalate field issues.
• Ability to calculate pay quantities.
• Understanding of change conditions.
• Intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and other computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Observe, document, and verify the construction contractor’s work in progress to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans.
• Confirm that procedures are followed and materials used conform to specifications.
• Use engineering inspection practices to perform basic mathematical calculations and measurements of completed work.
• Maintain an inspector’s daily report documenting assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, and quantities of material received and verified.
• Assist with on-site material testing.
• Produce as-constructed sketches as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
