About The Position

The Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS) is seeking a Retirement Technician Supervisor for the Agency's Bureau of Benefits Administration (BBA). This role involves providing professional and technical services to public school employees, including active and inactive members, retirees, beneficiaries, and their legal representatives. The supervisor will lead a team of Retirement Technicians, perform full supervisory duties, and act as a subject matter expert for their work unit. The BBA is divided into the Member Account Division and the Benefits and Exceptions Division. Due to cyclical production work and legislative changes, staff may be assigned various tasks based on PSERS operational needs. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in a pension system or related field, proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication skills, and a desire to lead and serve PSERS members.

Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Retirement Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title).
  • Three years of experience in technical work in a pension system or related occupational area, which includes two years of experience applying mathematical formulas and principles.
  • An Associate Degree and one year of technical experience in a pension system or related occupational area applying mathematical formulas and principles.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which includes two years of experience applying mathematical formulas and principles in a pension system or related occupational area.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform Essential Functions as presented in the linked Position Description.
  • Submission of criminal history reports will be required for a conditional offer of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Guide staff performance, assign tasks, and provide support to help staff reach their goals.
  • Review work processes, improve procedures, and ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Coach team members, identify training needs, and provide opportunities to build skills.
  • Verify information requests, review member account data, and ensure correct and timely responses.
  • Work with the Retirement Administrator and other PSERS bureaus to solve problems and improve results.
