About The Position

Kentucky Public Pensions Authority (KPPA) is currently seeking a Retirement Counselor I in the Division of Member Services. Located in Frankfort, Kentucky, KPPA is responsible for the investment of funds and administration of pension and health insurance benefits for nearly 444,000 state and local government employees, state police officers, and nonteaching staff of local school boards and regional universities. Daily system activities, including administrative support, investment management, benefits counseling, accounting and payroll functions, and legal services, are performed by a staff of professional employees working as the KPPA. KPPA covers three separate systems: Kentucky Employees Retirement Systems (KERS), County Employees Retirement System (CERS), and the State Police Retirement System (SPRS). This position in the Division of Member Services is staffed by 17 counselors who provide a wide range of services to over 279,000 active and inactive (not yet retired) members. We work closely as a team and provide comprehensive benefits training.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in public or business administration, accounting, wage and/or claims reporting, investigations or auditing will substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Administrative and/or clerical experience in Kentucky Public Pensions Authority will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely benefit calculations to our members
  • Determine member’s eligibility for retirement and service purchases
  • Process member’s retirement application and calculate service purchases
  • Ensure benefits are processed within monthly deadlines
  • Review member files for accuracy
  • Develop skills and knowledge to educate members in person, virtually and via Webinar on various retirement subjects
