Retail Store Sales Representative (12-month contract)
About The Position
The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused Retail Store Sales Representatives to join its Retail team. As a first point of contact for visitors, the role involves creating an exceptional museum experience through outstanding customer service, processing retail transactions, maintaining merchandise displays, and sharing knowledge about ROM exhibitions and products. The representative will represent the ROM brand and contribute to a welcoming shopping experience, whether assisting members, helping visitors find their way, or recommending gifts.
Requirements
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
- Up to one year of experience in retail, hospitality, tourism, customer service, or a related public-facing environment.
- Passion for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Positive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with large numbers of visitors.
- Experience operating a POS system (Shopify experience is considered an asset).
- Ability to handle customer concerns professionally and courteously.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when processing transactions.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and peak museum periods.
- Fluency in English; additional languages, particularly French, are considered an asset.

Responsibilities
- Deliver exceptional customer service that creates memorable shopping and museum experiences for every visitor.
- Accurately process retail sales using Shopify Point of Sale (POS).
- Promote ROM merchandise, memberships, exhibitions, and special promotions through genuine customer engagement.
- Maintain visually appealing merchandise displays and ensure the store remains clean, organized, and well-stocked.
- Assist with visitor wayfinding by providing information about galleries, exhibitions, and museum amenities.
- Help manage customer flow during peak periods while maintaining a positive, welcoming environment.
- Collaborate with the Retail team to achieve sales, service, and operational goals.
