Join us and be part of a mission that truly makes a difference in people's lives. We are seeking a store manager for a new initiative in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. The Fresh Stop Retail Store Manager & Farm Share Coordinator will be responsible for launching and managing a retail store that offers fresh produce and other items from local farmers. This role includes overseeing all aspects of store operations and managing a sliding-scale farm share program. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a passion for local agriculture, community empowerment, and improving access to healthy, affordable food.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in retail management with the ability to launch and manage new projects.
  • Passion for local agriculture and improving food access in underserved communities.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of both the retail store and farm share program.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills to recruit and manage volunteers, engage customers, and build community relationships.
  • Basic understanding of financial management (e.g., cash handling, budgeting) to maintain sustainable operations.
  • Ability to manage inventory, track sales, and oversee logistics for both the store and farm share program.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work varying hours, especially during busy distribution times, and perform physical tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs.).
  • Driver's License Required

Responsibilities

  • Building & Launching the Fresh Stop Retail Store: Lead the setup and opening of the retail store offering fresh produce from local farmers, as well as cheeses, breads, and a selection of shelf-stable items sourced from local producers. Develop operational processes for store inventory, product sourcing, pricing, and customer service. Coordinate with local farmers, artisans, and suppliers to source a variety of fresh produce, cheeses, breads, and other shelf-stable products. Design the physical layout of the store to maximize accessibility, customer flow, and community engagement.
  • Promoting and managing the Sliding-Scale Farm Share Program: Operationalize the sliding-scale farm share program, including local farmer engagement, membership sign-up, payment processing and communication with members. Establish logistics for the farm share distributions, including communication of produce included in each distribution and volunteer coordination for pick up days.
  • Store & Farm Share Operations Management: Oversee daily operations for both the retail store and farm share program, ensuring both are running smoothly and efficiently. Monitor inventory levels for the store, ensuring that fresh produce, cheeses, breads, and other local items, as well as shelf stable items. are well stocked and available to customers. Handle customer service issues and inquiries, making sure customers have an excellent experience in the store and with the farm share program. Manage the finances for the store and farm share program, including cash handling, sales tracking, and farm share revenue management.
  • Customer Engagement & Community Outreach: Promote the farm share program and retail store through community events, partnerships with local organizations, and social media campaigns. Build relationships with local community leaders, schools, and other organizations to grow the farm share program's reach and strengthen the store's role in the community. Serve as the primary contact for both farm share members and retail store customers.
  • Food Safety & Compliance: Establish and enforce food safety procedures to ensure that both the retail store and farm share operations meet health regulations.
