About The Position

The Retail Security Guard helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for customers, employees, and vendors at Plaza del Lago in Wilmette, Illinois. The role requires attention to detail, professionalism, and a customer-first mindset. Duties may vary based on site needs. The officer patrols assigned areas or maintains a fixed post, monitors activity and security systems, controls access and traffic, responds to emergencies and incidents, documents activity, inspects for safety risks, supports loss prevention, and assists visitors. The position requires reliability, alertness, professionalism, and adherence to post orders, company policies, safety procedures, and training requirements.

Requirements

Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to stay alert and respond calmly in emergency situations.
Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions.
Ability to write clear and accurate reports.
Professional appearance and demeanor.
Valid Guard Card or state Guard license.
High school diploma or GED.
3–6 months of security or life-safety experience.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks.
High level of attentiveness and situational awareness.
Dependable and team-oriented.
Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong work ethic and sense of urgency.

Nice To Haves

Prior security or customer-facing experience.
Familiarity with CCTV, alarms, or access control systems.

Responsibilities

Patrol assigned areas or maintain a fixed post to monitor activity.
Control access points and manage pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
Identify and report suspicious activity, incidents, or safety concerns.
Respond to alarms, emergencies, and on-site incidents.
Monitor CCTV cameras and security systems.
Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, and required documentation.
Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times.
Follow post orders, company policies, and safety procedures.
Maintain knowledge of emergency response protocols.
Inspect property for safety risks, including fire hazards and equipment issues.
Support loss prevention and recommend safety improvements.
Greet and assist customers, employees, and visitors professionally; provide directions and support as needed.
Maintain a visible, approachable presence on-site.
Arrive on time in full uniform, stay engaged and proactive throughout the shift, and follow safety, training, and compliance requirements.
