About The Position

The Whitney Museum of American Art seeks an ambitious and experienced Sales Associate for a 12-week seasonal, part-time temporary role on the Whitney Retail Team. Associates provide product knowledge and customer service while meeting sales goals and developing a loyal onsite and online audience for the Whitney Museum Shop. They maintain merchandise presentation across a broad museum program and collaborate with front-facing departments, including Membership, Visitor Services, and Security, to support the customer experience in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.

Previous POS and inventory experience.
Ability to lift and carry moderate merchandise weights.
Interest in arts and culture.
Open availability, especially on weekends.
Appreciation of diverse audiences and work environments.

Nice To Haves

A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
Additional languages are a plus.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service by engaging with customers, understanding their needs, and fulfilling them.
Accurately and efficiently process sales transactions across multiple sales channels and technology platforms.
Handle cash and credit card transactions and open and close cash drawers.
Maintain high standards of merchandise presentation, visually and verbally.
Assist in coordinating the breakdown of the retail shop for events.
Perform scheduled inventory counts and other related duties as assigned.
Restock supplies and products and maintain inventory.
Assist with receiving and packaging.
Process mail orders online and in store.
Sell products and provide hospitality service.
