About The Position
NSF is seeking an independent contractor Retail Food Safety Auditor serving the Reno, Nevada area. The auditor performs second-party audits for retail clients, including businesses such as restaurants, bars, grocery stores, and foodservice operations. The role involves informing and educating personnel about applicable standards, summarizing audit findings, and communicating with clients and NSF managers. The position offers 10–50 audit hours per month. Travel, including overnight travel, is required; approximately 50% of audits take place in evenings or on weekends.
Requirements
- Must have a degree.
- At least 2 years of experience in food safety, restaurant operations, or grocery operations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 80% of the time, including overnight travel as required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Prior food safety experience or knowledge.
- Must live in the Reno, Nevada area.
- Able to work evenings or weekends for approximately 50% of audits.
Nice To Haves
- Prior food safety audit experience.
- ServSafe certification.
- Certified CP-FS (Certified Professional Food Safety), or ability to obtain it within 3 months; equivalent certification is also acceptable.
Responsibilities
- Perform second-party audits for retail clients.

- Communicate effectively with clients, the Audit Delivery Manager, and the Account Manager.
- Demonstrate a high level of quality and integrity in daily responsibilities.
- Travel overnight as required.
- Inform and educate restaurant, bar, grocery store, and foodservice personnel about specific standards.
