Retail Field, Low Voltage & Network Technicians
About The Position
MTI is seeking flexible field, low-voltage, and network technicians to implement, maintain, upgrade, and repair networks and networked devices, including access points, routers, switches, POS systems, printers, and modems. The role includes setting up and troubleshooting wired and wireless connections across different environments and establishing adequate signal strength for clients. Travel to various markets is required and paid. Training is provided. The position is non-exempt and reports to the Territory Manager. The role involves field work in varied environments, including areas with facility ceiling space and crawl spaces. Technicians should have flexible availability; the posting notes that weekday availability may be coordinated around other work for freelancers and small business owners. Requirements
- Previous IT, POS, low-voltage field, or related technical technician experience is required.
- Current driver’s license, vehicle, and insurance.
- Technical aptitude, including experience with cabling runs, management, testing, termination, and network provisioning.
- Excellent communication skills via phone, text, and email.
- Smartphone mobile device.
- Flexible availability.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of various networking technologies.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Aptitude for customer support.
- Must be over 18.
- Ability to use hand tools frequently.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds or more on occasion.
- Ability to climb up and down ladders.
- Ability to use a computer and telephone system.
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend over, and reach overhead.
Nice To Haves
- Certifications are a plus but not required.
- POS experience is a plus.
- Flexible freelancer or small-business-owner availability, including some free weekday availability.
Responsibilities
- Implement, maintain, upgrade, and repair networks and networked devices, including access points, routers, switches, POS systems, printers, and modems.
- Set up and troubleshoot wired and wireless network connections in different environments.
- Connect devices using physical cables or wireless frequencies and create adequate signal strength throughout client locations.
- Run, manage, test, and terminate cabling and provision networks.
- Test networks and Wi-Fi signals, including heat mapping.
- Install and troubleshoot access points, routers, and switches.
- Travel to various markets for field work.
- Communicate with customers and colleagues by phone, text, and email.
