About The Position

Marders is seeking a Retail Cashier Associate/Sales team member to provide knowledgeable, customer-focused service in its garden center. Product knowledge of Marders’ plants, products, and services is fundamental to the role. The associate drives sales by exceeding customer service and selling expectations while supporting checkout operations as a register facilitator. The role combines customer education and sales-floor support with register duties, merchandising, clienteling, and operational tasks. The associate helps customers with plant care, soil conditions, fertilizers, and organic gardening practices; supports a smooth and accurate checkout process; and assists with maintaining displays and store operations. Weekend availability is required, and the position may also involve holidays and special events.

Requirements

1–2 years of customer service experience in retail or a similar customer-facing environment.
Experience using a POS system and handling customer transactions.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build authentic relationships with customers.
Ability to work weekends.
May be required to lift 25 pounds.
May be required to stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

Maintain and clearly communicate knowledge of Marders’ plant material, products, and services, including annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs.
Educate customers on plant care, soil conditions, fertilizers, and organic gardening practices.
Welcome and connect with customers to provide a seamless, enjoyable experience.
Support floor sales by recommending related products and identifying add-on opportunities.
Review daily sales reports and track progress toward daily and weekly sales goals.
Execute register transactions and operate the POS system as needed.
Use store systems, radios, and phones effectively.
Assist the Merchandising Manager with maintaining visually compelling displays that meet merchandising standards.
Assist with tagging, replenishment, offloading, receiving, and other operational tasks as directed.
Communicate with customers and colleagues using Acumatica and established clienteling protocols, including daily clienteling and follow-up.
Share feedback, insights, and ideas with management and raise concerns constructively.
Support company recycling and waste-reduction efforts, including proper separation of compost, plastics, glass, paper, and food waste.
Be available during peak business periods, including weekends, holidays, and special events.
Operate the register efficiently, ensure transaction accuracy, and balance the drawer at the end of each shift.
Support a seamless checkout experience so sales associates can continue assisting customers on the sales floor.
Process product tags and transactions efficiently to maintain checkout flow.
Keep the register area clean and organized.
Answer customer questions when appropriate or direct customers to the appropriate sales associate or department.
Assist with houseplant sales as product knowledge develops, consulting a sales associate or department expert when needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
